Then, I feed a mix of USB 2 and USB3 2m patch cables from the Startech up the mount in a wire loom, before fanning out to eacch device on the mount and on the instrument payloads. My own solution, after experiencing frequent problems with high bandwith connections to a ZWO 174MC camera, with many powered hubs and extender cables, was to use a Startech industrial USB3 hub located at the foot of my (older) EQ8 in a weatherproof enclosure, and run power and USB3 to that. If you have a reference to any informed online discussion about this issue I'd be interested. Obviously, minimising the length of connecting USB cable to that connector would be mandatory. The connector at the base of the polar axis will have this effect. I do know that introducing cable breaks into USB3 runs adds variable amounts of additional impedence. I myslef know nothing about that hub, nor am I aware of anyone having upgraded the hub card. Not many folk on this list possess the newer EQ8's, and most folk are uncomfortable about getting involved with the engineering. HNY to you too, Jean-Francois! Your core question seems to be about experience with the new EQ8's USB hub, and with poor bandwidth when running USB3 hardware through it. Is that the only way for having a working USB 3.0 at the DEC axis ?

#IT FOLLOWS ME EQ8 INSTALL#

I read somewhere that somebody dismount the power and the USB 3.0 cables from the mount and install new cable/hub through the mount axis.

#IT FOLLOWS ME EQ8 HOW TO#

How to solve it ? … change the hub card ? Has somebody the same problems with USB 3.0 hardware (camera) ? I do the hub test with an extern 12V power… so that the hub is internally powered. No USB 3.0 hardware seems to works with the mount.īoth USB 3.0 camera are working (but with slower data transfer) when I connect it on my computer USB 2.0 connector. I test with different USB 2.0 hardware (USB stick, USB 2.0 camera), it works with these hardware. I connect 2 different USB 3.0 camera (Atik Horizon-C and QHY-174) and an extern drive and all three are not working with the hub. GSS gives a RA coordinate difference of 6 hours, when I initialize the mount with the hand controller (or SynScan software) before the use with GSS.Īfter that the mount is used first with GSS and works, then if I change to SynScan software, the coordinates are wrong in SynScan. GSS works good, if the mount starts from the home position without any initialization.

And I found some problems with the initialization.

Direct connection with the SynScan software works, but no connection from CdC or Prism software.Īfter several hours of tests and internet search, I found the problem by myself … it was sufficient to uncheck the box "Search devices when connecting", now it works.ĭuring all my search in the internet, I found the GSServer software. I found finally the good advice … "change the bit transfer to 115200". It was necessary to search several hours in the internet.

Next problem after installing all the software … no connection with the COM port.Īll the driver "says" OK, but no connection. Simple mechanical problem at the beginning: the central M12 fixing screw was not fitting … it was necessary to use a M12 thread cutter, before fixing the mount on my tripod. Most of the tests were performed in my kitchen (yes, I have sufficient place only there and the temperature is more comfortable inside) nice to see 3 geostationary satellites.I have an 4 years old EQ8 (Orion) and I have now a new EQ8-Rh … 2 days old. First I think that 3 new hot pixels appera on my camera.Īnd then with tracking the stars were fix and the 3 dots were moving. during the above problem and with the telescope pointing near Orion, I observe 3 dots not moving during the star field drift (tracking disable). I will ask my SkyWatcher support to give me the correct combination/version of firmware/software for the EQ8-Rh model. until I do the movement from the hand controller and again without tracking.ĭoes somebody have one time the same behavior ?Ĭoncerning the motor firmware. The hand controller RA/DEC movement moves the telescope, but disable the tracking.Ī movement performed by computer (SynScan, Prism or SharpCap software) does the movement and switch-on automatically the tracking again. Yesterday, the commanding with the hand controller was strange.Īfter the noisy RA motor during movement and after retrieving the star synchronization, it was as follow: and it was local 00:50 when I write the e-mail. easy solution (It was a test to verify your attention :-) ) the 13) was performed with the telescope on the West side pointing a little bit in the East, the 14) was done later on the M42 *after* a meridian flip.
